CAPADIRE in Haïti
After the earthquake of January 12, 2010, the main concern of the CAPADIRE in Haiti was to support the civil society in its reconstruction efforts by providing training programs that matched the needs of the Haitian population and the humanitarian community. Working in Haiti since February 2010, CAPADIRE has already provided hours of training by hundreds (see the dedicated section to training).
The program’s action was structured into two distinct parts:
- Capacity building to improve immediate efficiency in disaster response
- Assertion of the skills and integration of the Haitian people via their reconstruction efforts to develop the capacity of fragilised populations to take control over their future
Its goal was to provide a specific solution to every type of situation, training people to act either in the emergency of initial response or in the reconstruction and development, depending on the needs. These two parts are linked by the expertise required for their implementation (development of capacities/skills in the field) and by the collaborations allowed in conducting programs (efficiency).
From March to September 2010, 1439 persons and 59 organisations benefited directly from these training programs, and among them 88 % were Haitians. The level of participant satisfaction is around 86 %.
167 training sessions were delivered (56 % in créole) in the following fields:
- Supply services, stock management and distribution
- Driver training
- Communications
- Staff safety
- Guard training
- Security
59 humanitarian organisations benefited from the training sessions:
- International NGO’s (mainly)
- National NGOs
- Haitian and other national Red Cross sections
- UN agencies
- Governmental organizations
The project could be achieved thanks to a dynamic multicultural team (6 different nationalities, nationals and expatriates), and among them, 4 Haitian trainers. It was hosted by SPHERE et HAP (Humanitarian Accountability Partnership).
Let’s not forget the program’s funding:
- ECHO
- French MoFA
- Redr appeal
- Beneficiary contributions
